@Badgardener I think I detect a wink in your eye ... but for anyone who doesn't know the Irish school system, most schools operate a #TransitionYear after the #JuniorCert exams and before the two-year #LeavingCert course. It includes work placements and a big range of short courses which pupiis choose between.

TIL about Irish secondary schools' transition year, a whole year in which the official curriculum is abandoned (save for Irish, English, Maths &PE).

We should be doing this in the UK. Its a marvellous opportunity for those kids who can't afford a gap year after school. Yet again, the Irish lead the way.
