Connie KoAlright people, I know this update is nearly a week late, but this week has been full of anything and everything and I haven’t had the spoons to write this out so here we go: There has been a BIG change in plans.
For those of you who are just finding me for the first time: Hi! My name is Connie. Along with my wife, I’m trying to move from Maryland to Seattle, Washington. Health issues, family issues, homophobia, transphobia and a general bad job market have made Maryland a generally bad place for us to live.
My wife has been working 3 jobs in order to save up money for this move and we’re reaching the point where the move itself should be possible. Finding a place to live is a little more difficult given some recent law changes. This, however, is not the biggest issue we’ve come to face this week.
Part of our plans involved getting some very specific financial aid which we were 95% sure we would get and due to circumstances that are out of our control that money simply isn’t coming. This has led us to a very difficult decision. One of the main reasons for moving there was for my wife to attend a specific school. She’s already been accepted and is enrolled but without that extra aid we won’t be able to afford her classes. Thankfully there is still the option of her to delay until the fall semester when hopefully we will be in a better financial situation.
The plus side of this is that we SHOULD be better off financially by the fall not to mention it gives us time to adjust to the area before getting super busy. The downside being that this pushes her entire education plan back not 1 but 2 semesters because she will also be missing out on summer classes. We’re still planning to make our move when we had previously scheduled because things just work out that way but it DOES give us more wiggle room to make the move.

Trying to keep posting new updates every couple of weeks to let people know how things are going. Unfortunately, this update is less about our progress and more about how we now have MORE reason to leave this place. So on to the short intro:

Our situation here in Maryland has been difficult at best. Now for this update I have to be very careful what I say because of some legal issues. My sister recently informed me that she has had a stalker for the last 9 months or so. The reason this only now comes to my attention is because her stalker turns out to be a substitute teacher in my child’s school district. Not only that but I later found out that she was in the school WITH my child a couple weeks ago. This gives us a whole new reason to want to be away from this area.
In other news: We’re starting to put in some applications for apartments that meet our needs. It looks like we’ll have a rough time meeting some of their requirements, but we’re trying anyway.
We’re still leaning towards the possibility of driving out. It’s not going to be a fun drive, but it gives us a lot more freedom in how we move some things as well as when we stop to rest and where.

Alrighty, it's been a couple weeks so it's time for a new update!
Hi, everyone! I'm Connie and along with my wife, I'm trying to move to Seattle in January!

Our situation here in Maryland has been difficult at best. Between health issues, family issues, homophobia, transphobia and a general bad job market, life has not been kind to us, so we're excited to start anew in a better place.
Recent updates: We're currently spending what free time we have cleaning and organizing our belongings. We've already come to understand that a large portion of our things will not be able to make this move with us. Some of the more valuable things will be staying with people who we trust to take care of them, and others are being donated or outright trashed depending on usefulness and condition.
We're still looking for the right apartment to move into that will be a good home for us to eventually bring our child to join us. This hasn't been easy within our limited price range. We are also open to the possibility of moving into a smaller place for a short time and upgrading when we get closer to him joining us.
Finally: We're reconsidering the possibility of driving. The entire trip is looking to be 40+ hours of drive time and we're not thrilled about the idea, but this will drastically cut down on moving costs considering not only do we not have to pay someone to transport our vehicle, AND I can avoid the dreaded TSA, but we also have more space in which to bring our most valued belongings. (And if things work out, we'll stop to visit some friends along the way.)

Time to post another update: We're still trying to move to Seattle in January!
It's been slow going but things are in motion. We've been apartment / house hunting in the area. We have a rough estimate of what we can afford and there is the potential of having housemates if we get a bigger place.
One of the big setbacks we've hit so far is that my parents are doing literally NOTHING to help us. My mother has flat out refused to even share the link to the #gofundme because she doesn't like "the wording" of some parts. WTF, mom? So much for being the supporting parent! Still better than my flat out transphobic father who hasn't even LOOKED at the page. >_>
All the same, we're saving up as much as we can to make this happen, and anything you could spare to help is greatly appreciated. Thank you. ❤️

Also, I wanted to add another detail that I'm afraid to put in the actual description:
Over the last 2 years as I've transitioned, my father has become increasingly hostile towards me. Despite his claims, he's not the "accepting ally" he thinks he is. He's shown himself to be transphobic, homophobic, and as is turns out, xenophobic (as I recently learned) towards Asians, on top of the racism he picked up from HIS father.
He's always been somewhat abusive to my mother and and he's doing worse than ever. I've been trying for the last 6 years to get away from this man and now more than ever I'm afraid to live under his roof.
