Today’s the 16th anniversary of moving to Canada with @notcontrary.

It has been a huge adventure, most of shared it with the (ever-growing) #tinyCanadian.

Toronto has been the place I’ve lived in for the longest for a while now, even if I still feel kind of new here.

I’m very grateful to feel at home and accepted here, as a new Torontonian and new Canadian.

The #tinyCanadian asked me whether a catch off a wall would count in #baseball. (After Springer hit a double off the Green Monster for the Jays.)

I said I didn’t think so, but let’s look it up.

The top result on Google was from Quora, which had the right answer from a human, preceded by some “Assistant bot” slop with the wrong answer.

And before any results, Google has its “AI Overview” with a similar (yet worse) wrong answer.

This one is mostly silly, but in other cases it’ll be dangerous.

I was never a Photoshop person, but this resonates with me.

I learnt to use Krita earlier this year to help my 7 y/o son make some comic art, in front of him.

We installed it, tinkered around & made the things he wanted.

It knocked my socks off, & he could see that learning a new thing takes time, but we can do it by persevering.

Even better, I may never have to mention the shoddy tool with the cringey name ever again nor ever have to explain it to him.

Fourteen years of keeping a Windows XP virtualbox installation just so I can fire up Photoshop every now and then, figure I'll see what I can get for free now that PS is finally losing relevance 'cause of the whole subscription thing, and I Get Prepared to go slog through some shite. See, the last time I fiddled with Not-Photoshop, the best free alternative had a cringe name and a crap interface and if you said "Hey can you change the name and/or interface" the cringiest bunch of weirdos on the planet would spit their dummies out at you and throw a massive embarrassing wobbler. So this time I tried Krita, expecting it to also have a crap interface and be generally a bit wonky, and wow. WOW. This doesn't just replace Photoshop; it pisses all over it. ALL. OVER IT. Anything Photoshop did, this thing does better, and it does more things too, and it's *free?* Yeah if you're keeping a Windows box around just for Photoshop, have a fiddle about with Krita. It slaps.

Eight years ago, @notcontrary and I were in Philadelphia just before the Democratic convention.

Now we’re in Chicago (with the #tinyCanadian).

Here’s hoping the election goes better this time.

(Expecting lots of bunting this weekend.)

Wondering whether the #tinyCanadian has fallen asleep is deftly answered by a blast on a kazoo.

So, “no” then, I suppose.

@ascentale A8. My favourite compliments have been when I’m riding with my 7 year old and pedestrians or cyclists have given him praise and encouragement.

Builds his confidence, and buoys him.

Much appreciated.

Took the #tinyCanadian to Canada’s Wonderland today.

I only heard it a few times, but the Ghoster Coaster announcement / jingle is still stuck in my head, nine hours later.

Pleased to report that the #tinyCanadian has done his part to eat some of the 7 million Tunnock’s caramel wafers this week.

“The red ones are the best!”

If you’re in Toronto, you can get packs of both milk and dark chocolate ones from the Anglo section of the Eglinton/Bayview Metro.

“Nice to see that @TunnockOfficial are doing pretty well. Up by a million since last year. (How often do they update this?)”
