She served less than a quarter of her nine-year sentence for her role in a scheme to copy her county's election system. Gov. Jared Polis commuted her sentence last month after pressure from President Donald Trump. Peters was released Monday. She was the first local election official charged with a security breach after the 2020 election. Peters had an outside computer expert make a copy of her county's election server. The move fueled false claims that voting machines were manipulated to steal the election from Trump.
