I posted this six years ago today, when the #GeorgeFloyd protests were happening:

An Open Letter To Our Sons and Daughters (Generation Z).
As a father, you tell me you are going to protest. I am SO proud of you. You are proving to be the adults we wanted you to be.
You are my greatest treasure on earth and fear for your safety, but I cannot stand in the way of your righteous calling to stand up for the rights of others.

#Xbox “Safety” is a joke. Not a funny one, unfortunately. My account was suspended for commenting with only a few of the names of black Americans who died in police custody: #GeorgeFloyd , #PhilandoCastile , #BreonnaTaylor , #TrayvonMartin , #MikeBrown …too many to name. My comment was under someone’s text post about the death of #HenryNowak , of which I also added that the story hadn’t gotten a lot of press on this side of the pond. #FreeSpeech doesn’t exist on corporate platforms. #microsoft
Sounds about right.

What do the British police's "anti-racism" guidelines predict?

The UK’s National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) published a “zero-tolerance to racism” document in March 2025, advising officers to treat suspects differently depending on their ethnicity. These anti-racism guidelines for the police came under fire after the death of a young white man stabbed by a Sikh, and according to which officers should “respond to individuals and communities according to their specific needs, circumstances and experiences, understanding that these will be racialized and with the aim of reducing harm”.

The NPCC announced that it would review the anti-racism guidelines, known as the “Action Plan Against Racism”, which some believe were responsible for the actions of officers who arrested Nowak.

“Treating everyone the same”
This does not mean “treating everyone the same” or being “blind to colour,” the document states, asking officers to be aware of the risk that the police “criminalize people” and that arrest and prosecution rates should be equal across different groups, even if crime levels are different.

Local Police Guidance
Further guidance published by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, the force under scrutiny for the handling of the murder of Henry Nowak, encourages officers to understand “the impact, trauma and history” of police activity on ethnic minorities.

Origin of Guidelines
The guidelines were drafted after the killing of George Floyd in 2020, which for the police was a “crucial moment and drove a real change”, even though the incident occurred in the United States.

Political Criticism and Review
The zero-tolerance commitment, now under review, was not a formal policy and was developed to address the low level of trust in the police among Black communities. However, Conservatives, Reform UK and the Democratic Unionist Party have called on the Home Secretary to intervene to prevent police forces from drafting similar guidelines in the future.

Minnesota Republicans Hold Moment of Silence for Derek Chauvin

Delegates to the Minnesota Republican Party’s convention voted to hold a moment of silence for Derek Chauvin, who was convicted of murdering George Floyd.

The New York Times
MN GOP voted to hold a moment of silence for convicted killer Derek Chauvin at their statewide convention this weekend (Chauvin murdered George Floyd on May 25, just over six years ago).
They publicly claim - though widely debunked - that Floyd died of a drug overdose, the video footage of his nine minute murder notwithstanding.

@mekkaokereke @Viss The thing that radicalized me at age 20 was cops hassling me all the time in my all-white neighborhood because I was a long-haired dirtbag. "Where you goin? HEY JAGOFF! TALKIN A YOU! You gotta job?"

But the thing that seriously, permanently radicalized me, activated me, was years of taking the bus downtown for work overnight and seeing cops on the sidewalk ignore me and manhandle black guys my age, sirens, lights, spread against the wall, screaming, frisking, handcuffs, clubs, guns, totally routine, all the time, not for anything, just a bullshit sadistic power trip. Same as with hassling me, except always on the very edge of deadly violence for the black guys.

Justice for Jonny Gammage! And Eric Garner, and George Floyd, and all the guys before and since murdered by cops for being black.

"The Minnesota Republican party did not immediately return a request for comment."

Even Republicans realize that there is no defending a "moment of silence" for a murderer serving a 22-and-a-half-year prison term.
