What he fails to say "And I knew it and didn't say anything in order to enrich myself."

EDIT - they do say it - you've just got to listen to the episode.

Another FarceBook whistleblower. This one a kiwi woman, Sarah Wynn-Williams, who's been gagged by an injunction since this interview was released;

#HatTip to RNZ MediaWatch for reporting both the release of Wynn-Williams' exposé book, and the gag order.

Emily Maitlis, Jon Sopel and Lewis Goodall discuss the mood. Via #TheNewsAgents podcast, at https://www.podbean.com/media/share/dir-4ym3d-23fa311e

EM: I think it's pretty fucking dark, actually. I was talking to somebody who's a federal employee, who's also an employer, he has a team of about 30, and they've had this edict from Musk, and he said I'm just telling my people to wait, to see it out, not respond yet, compile your five bullet points, don't send anything. But there are security concerns, because anything that they say obviously implicates whatever the department is doing in terms of national security. And this person said--and I should say that they refuse to talk to me on email or Whatsapp any more, they only want to use Signal, they said that that's how they're communicating in their department now. They're not using any government computers--

JS: So a US government department is just going to Signal?

EM: --they're not using government computers, and they're not having any conversations on email. The younger workers are terrified that they might say the wrong thing, or be reported by some MAGA insider for saying the wrong thing. And this person said, our language has changed, we don't use words like inclusion any more, we don't talk about diversity, all the pronouns have been struck off--this is obviously overlapping the DEI stuff--and there's an email address that has been put out, where the workers are asked to spy on their colleagues. They've got no idea who's on the other end of the email, but they talk about none of this on anything that is related to the US government.

Is Germany about to cut ties with Trump's America?

It didn't take long for Germany's new Chancellor in waiting, Friedrich Merz, to make his presence felt across the Atlantic. Before the final ballots had even been counted in the German elections, Merz took to a television debate to warn that "after Donald Trump's remarks last week...it is clear that this government does not care much about the fate of Europe". He called for the EU to work together at pace to "really achieve independence from the USA", even questioning whether NATO in its current form would continue to exist come the summer. Remarkable words from a politician until now known as a staunch atlanticist - but is he just reflecting the new political era Europe finds itself in? And what does that mean for Keir Starmer and the British government?Later, Elon Musk instructs millions of federal workers to compile a list of their achievements in the past week or risk the sack, and a podcaster becomes deputy chief of the FBI. What on earth is going on in America's civil service - and is it just becoming an enforcement arm for Donald Trump? Tickets to The News Agents Live On Stage with HSBC UK are now on sale! (Context-free ramble) Does valuation matter if the bidder controls the regulator? #thenewsagents is astute in asking the right questions even if fundamentally the players are fighting over the scraps of a world they are determined to destroy 😣 (I am an optimist, AGI is still miles off and the failure of populism will be evident.)
