I enjoy reading The Idler magazine. Just finished a lovely interview with Michael Palin. I am reminded of how important Monty Python was to me back in my youth and how each member of the cast appealed to a different part of my personality. Palin was always the affable side of me and he still is.

(Apologies, I don't think there is a free link to this interview. However here are a couple of other things with Palin and The Idler:

The Yale digital edition of Samuel Johnson, what a wonderful resource!

Here Johnson advises on the Uncertainty of Friendship (The Idler, No. 23. Saturday, 23 September 1758):

"The most fatal disease of friendship is gradual decay, or dislike hourly encreased by causes too slender for complaint, and too numerous for removal. Those who are angry may be reconciled; those who have been injured may receive a recompence; but when the desire of pleasing and willingness to be pleased is silently diminished, the renovation of friendship is hopeless; as, when the vital powers sink into languor, there is no longer any use of the physician."
