Dear #TheHat - PLEASE come to Arizona.

For those that don’t know, The Hat is a small chain of pastrami restaurants in California that serve the absolute best pastrami burgers on the planet.

There is a chain of pastrami burger restaurants in California called "The Hat". I don't know why because they don't sell hats there, not that I'm aware of anyway, but their food is incredibly good. Attached is a picture of their "pastrami burger". More food than it looks like in the pic. Something like a pound of fresh, delicious pastrami along with a burger patty and all the fixings. Really, REALLY good and super popular for probably obvious reasons. #pastrami #burger #thehat #fastfood

Hello Rancho Cucamonga - and the greatest #pastrami fast food restaurant in the world! #TheHat

Was reminded of this, still need to study the proof (link in article) 😂

Einstein tilings – the amazing “Hat” shape that never repeats!

Imagine tiling a whole football field using a single shape… yet not being able to produce a repeating pattern, even if you wanted to.

Naked Security
@benmschmidt I don’t know if any human looked at that shape before the authors of the paper, but it must have been in this set of 873 possibilities for 8 tetrakites 2 times. Testing for the aperiodic tiling property is a different thing though.

#Design meets #math: A geometric shape that doesn't repeat itself when tiled may finally have been discovered — and its referred to as an 'einstein" shape, but not for the reasons you might guess

A geometric shape that does not repeat itself when tiled

A quartet of mathematicians from Yorkshire University, the University of Cambridge, the University of Waterloo and the University of Arkansas has discovered a 2D geometric shape that does not repeat itself when tiled. David Smith, Joseph Samuel Myers, Craig Kaplan and Chaim Goodman-Strauss have written a paper describing how they discovered the unique shape and possible uses for it. Their full paper is available on the arXiv preprint server.
