Looks at the #Dendy #Canberra now showing page.

The most interesting thing today is apparently #Interstellar in #IMAX which… meh.

I liked it better when it was #TheBlackHole

OK, so apparently Dendy #Canberra will be having #IMAX screenings of #Interstellar soon, a film I liked better when it was #TheBlackHolehttps://piratesobg.wordpress.com/2016/09/11/interstellar-2014/

(Yeah, that’s a cheap shot, and I acknowledged that in the blog post, but falling asleep in an IMAX cinema is an embarrassment I’m not willing to risk)

Interstellar (2014)

I think I liked Interstellar better when it was The Black Hole. That’s a cheap shot perhaps, and certainly unfair to some of the actors[1]. However it reflects my unhappiness with a film that was r…

Happy anniversary to Gary Nelson’s film ‘The Black Hole’. Released this week in theaters in 1979. This, & Steven Lisberger’s original ‘Tron’ film were both sadly ignored by most. The backstory on both films & how they were made are fascinating & WAY ahead of technology at the time. #TheBlackHole #GaryNelson #Maximilian #VINCENT #Tron #StevenLisberger

Also, the scenes where the protagonists arrive and immediately have an open air car that takes them through a big glass covered road so they can see all of the ship and surrounding space (and their egress reverses that trip, after the SHTF) - Does not advance the plot, rather 100% because Disney would want to, of course, build an eye-candy driven ride based on the film.

its just such an unusual film that seems to have fallen out of the cultural lexicon. Spouse and I went into this fully unspoiled, knowing the release year, that it was Disney, and that reviews were not favorable.

Its this weird, space-movie cash grab thats beautifully shot but terribly written, shoving the traditional 'group finds abandonded house...to be occupied by a deceptive antagonist' plot but set in a giant generation ship that, somehow, is chillin' near #TheBlackHole.

also spouse: "Did they forget to tell the woman to act, periodically?" #TheBlackHole

Me: For a guy living by himself on a space station, he sure has a lot of monsters with knife hands.

spouse: "look, the time to build monsters with knife hands is *Before* you need monsters with knife hands." #TheBlackHole
