System redevelopment disaster? Blame it on the users’ acceptance of *change*.

“We didn’t make the change lightly and we appreciate that it will take time for some to adjust. I sincerely apologise for the challenges the change has caused.” (BoM a/g CEO) #TheSaturdayPaper

That #jimchalmers didn’t start this round table by defining what productivity is is obvious. Privatisation with throwing money with no oversight is probably the biggest problem but that was probably never mentioned.

Economic round table recycles broken ideas

A genuine debate about how to boost Australia’s productivity should bring in a wide range of groups to talk about a wide range of options, but, alas, that’s not what happened in Canberra this week.

Frank racism

Last Sunday, a few hours before dawn, a group of men in black masks arrived at Northland in Melbourne with a banner that read “Ban n-----s not machetes”. They posed for a photograph in front of the shopping centre, their hands balled in impotent fists.

And wondered if Abbott was aiming to get Dutton into the PM position when #MalcolmTurnbull was rolled - which would have had Mr Sneaky outsmart Abbott.

Or were Abbott and Mr Sneaky in cahoots, using Dutton as the assassin, always intending to dupe him?

How will Larissa Waters reshape the Greens?

The new leader of the Greens, Larissa Waters, seems nice. She’s certainly well-credentialled, holding degrees in both science and law, the latter with honours. She’s also dedicated to the Greens’ original cause, having worked for almost a decade for the Queensland Environmental Defenders Office before entering federal parliament in 2010.

morning headlines from #TheSaturdayPaper: and i wonder
Is hanson trying to gather votes from joyce supporters, or to tank the nationals?

Pauline Hanson has confirmed she asked former Nationals leader Barnaby Joyce last year to join One Nation after he was filmed sprawled on a Canberra footpath late at night.
The disclosure by Hanson follows Nine media reports that Joyce will be dumped from cabinet if the coalition wins the next federal election (SMH).
On Monday, Hanson uploaded a video to Facebook saying the offer to Joyce still stood – “We’re on the same page” – despite him rejecting her earlier offer (Facebook).
Nine newspapers say the Nationals also plan to hide Joyce during the election campaign with a new rule effectively barring him from conducting political trips outside his electorate.

This article is well worth a read. If the coalition have their way they’ll decimate the public service and we’ll be back to wasting money on consultants

When Bill Shorten took over his sprawling portfolios in government, he saw public servants were “drowning”. “The Quality and Safeguards Commission and Services Australia, morale was in the toilet. They had to go through the trauma of implementing robodebt when a lot of them just knew it was wrong and misfiring,” the minister for government services and the National Disability Insurance Scheme tells The Saturday Paper.

“The coal exported from the Port of Newcastle is estimated to account for 1 per cent of global carbon emissions. Shutting it down would actually make a difference.”

“I’m terrified…” says Naomi Hodgson, and at first I think she means she’s terrified of the three police officers facing us across the table, all imposing figures, wearing badges of Superintendent and Inspector.

This comment is from #BarryJones and it is absolutely correct! ✅

“Albanese appears to be strikingly lacking in ambition. I am convinced that making some bold decisions, and explaining them, would strengthen his prime ministership significantly. He could begin by bringing Tanya Plibersek in from the cold, experimenting with democracy inside the ALP, tackling the corrosive causes of Australia’s gambling obsession, and addressing our grossly unequal education system.” #TheSaturdayPaper
