Oggi infatti il Roland Garros ha annunciato il suo omaggio ad Adriano Panatta, invitato a consegnare il trofeo al vincitore. Chissà che non possa essere proprio il numero 1 al mondo, Jannik Sinner.
A cinquant’anni dal trionfo del 1976, il campione italiano ha ricevuto un invito firmato personalmente dalla Direttrice del torneo Amélie Mauresmo e dal Presidente della Federazione francese di tennis Gilles Moretton. I vertici del torneo parigino definiscono la vittoria di Panatta “uno dei capitoli più iconici scritti sulla terra rossa di Parigi” e sottolineano come “il suo spirito combattivo, l’eleganza del gioco e quei punti storici continuino a incarnare l’anima del Roland Garros”.
Per Panatta, ultimo italiano ad oggi ad aver conquistato il torneo parigino, si tratta del secondo tributo in poche settimane: il 17 maggio sarà infatti al Foro Italico per premiare il vincitore degli Internazionali d’Italia, altro torneo vinto nel memorabile 1976 che terminò con la conquista della Coppa Davis. Anche in questo caso, la speranza è che un tennista italiano possa spezzare questo tabù che dura ormai da mezzo secolo.
Nel frattempo, Panata ha ringraziato gli organizzatori francesi: “Ci sono luoghi che restano dentro per sempre, e per me Parigi è uno di quelli – ha commentato -. Ricevere un invito così è un grande onore, ringrazio la direttrice Amélie Mauresmo e il President Gilles Moretton”. “È un privilegio poter sentire ancora un legame così forte con il Roland Garros, per me ha un significato davvero speciale“, ha concluso Panatta.
