I've never been much of an artistic person but I have a love for comics and as part of #therapy over the last few years I have used #ArtTherapy to ease anxiety and lighten my mood.
I grew up reading #TheBeano and always thought I was a Dennis the Menace before becoming an adult and realising I have more in common with Walter the Softy (but I'm no Cuthbert!).
Currently I'm learning to use #Procreate on an #iPadPro with #ApplePencil
Here's a recent doodle of my cat
Ned Hartley from 2022
Back in 2022 I sat down with Ned Hartley over a video call to talk about Bannanaman the Beano and all things kids comics! I had a really great chat and I must chat with him again.
You can find lots of Ned’s work on his website www.nedhartley.com
It makes me very happy that my kids love #TheBeano and #ThePhoenix. It’s also an incredible achievement to keep real British/Scottish comics for kids going in the face of declining sales and competition from rubbish product tie ins with plastic tat on the cover.
The Beano is 85 years old! I really didn’t think my kids would be reading the Bash Street Kids, Calamity James, the Numskulls and Bananaman in 2024.
How has #TheBeano’s Dennis the Menace survived the rise of television, increased cultural consumption and the digital age?

It’s a bit tricky to draw using a track pad.
I’ve got the Christmas editions of the Beano and 2000 ad! That’s me sorted for over Christmas now!
/me raises a glass of fizzy pop and wishes a very happy birthday to The Beano comic, 85 years old today.
Here's to even more silly, fun, laughing, loving, child-friendly entertainment.
