i think it's really insidious how ubiquitous fake notification bubbles are on corporate websites. these things are everywhere and they're very explicitly designed to hijack existing UI standards to trick you into clicking on them, in order to "promote engagement" or whatever. isn't this plainly unethical? doesn't anyone care anymore? #userhostile #techbullshit
think it's worth marking this gripe with my customary hashtags #userhostile and #techbullshit for later convenience

stumbled on this again and it's still worth reading. #userhostile #techbullshit

anyone ever see this weird error where youtube just decides to make the word "premium" take up the entire goddamn screen so you can't see or click on anything? #techbullshit
searched for how to do frame-by-frame in VLC for android. included "for android" in the search, to be clear. one of the top results is a techspamblog with "android" literally in the name, telling me how to do frame-by-frame in windows. #techbullshit
is anyone even bothering to report that youtube just broke basic functionality of its own website? i can't find anything even reporting on this. i guess everyone's just used to this shit by now. it's 2025, which means periodically our daily routines will be disrupted and made worse with no warning, for no reason, with no appeal, at the whims of investors whose faces we will never see and whose names we will never know #techbullshit
this was originally from tumblr but i saw it on bluesky and i'm reposting it here. notice how almost all of this shit has happened specifically because of decisions made by faceless and unaccountable corporations. #techbullshit
crossposting a few things i reposted on bluesky that i think are both brilliantly put and extremely important #userhostile #techbullshit

this is just absolutely ludicrous. how does anyone at microsoft sleep at night knowing this is what they're doing to the world? #techbullshit

Dark patterns killed my wife’s Windows 11 installation Last night, my wife looks up from her computer, troubled. She tells me she can't log into her computer running Windows 11, as every time she enters the PIN code to her account, the login screen throws up a cryptic error: "Your credentials could not be verified". She's using the correct PIN code, so that surely isn't it. We opt https://www.osnews.com/story/143376/dark-patterns-killed-my-wifes-windows-11-installation/ #Windows

Google will block sideloading of unverified Android apps starting next year

Google says it's no different than checking IDs at the airport.
