Com Ports on a Power9 Computer

Replaced a bitrotted flash chip in my #talosII motherboard today.
PNOR flash is somewhat sensitive apparently for power fluctuations and static.

I can boot unattended again! #power9

bootstrapping a compiler...

That's a first in, I dunno, 25 years. Last time it probably was gcc on an HP-UX (apollo 425 I think) cluster I bought from university leftovers

Started speccing a #power9 #talosII workstation with @vikings

Really looking forward to using that machine.

An initial order of @RaptorCompSys

IBM made a celebratory post about #POWER9, and while they did mention Rackspace/Google’s Zaius board, they conspicuously left out any mention of @raptoreng’s #TalosII or Blackbird. Looks like I’m not the only one who noticed:

The year of POWER9 - IBM IT Infrastructure Blog

We’re looking back at what the analysts, experts and media have said about POWER9 and IBM’s newest line of Power Systems servers.

I'm now testing #talosII with fedora 29. they say that #redhat put a lot of effort in making the system as compatible with #power9 as possible. After testing the system for a cuple of days I can honestly say that I found no difference with a #amd64 arch; everything works.

Congrats to the redhat development team!!
Just placed an order for a dual-slot #TalosII #OpenPOWER system with two 8-core #POWER9 Sforza CPUs from @raptoreng . Looking forward to an interesting journey ahead with a truly open, high-performance computer.
