For those who saw my PyCon keynote: Markus is currently visiting the mine that is only possible because of the Mundaring/Kalgoorlie pipeline. It started with a large alluvial gold find; it’s now a Very Big Hole in the ground. (There’s quite a bit of gold in Kalgoorlie).
