D-Day. As in d day I officially cancelled all paid subscriptions to authors I like and follow BUT sadly publish only on Substack.

I also attempted to make sure my account listing my original email to be a subscriber in Substack was removed or changed to a different one that’s an alias email account. CAN’T DO THIS in Substack.

After I cancel each subscription I had paid for I tried to remove my credit card. CAN’T DO THIS in Substack.

Tried to delete any posts I had made in a lame personal Substack. CAN’T DO THIS in Substack. Tried to delete a few photos I shared. CAN’T DO THIS in Substack.

Um. How interesting these discoveries are. Even if I completely delete my account, Substack retains my email, my posts, my comments on any article published on Substack and my photos. I wonder why this would be. #Substack #SubstackNazis

I think it is time to review the stance that if something is merely a service, rather than a platform, they can be forgiven for not moderating content.

Any hosting service, ultimately, is choosing what to host.
If they don't moderate, that's always bad.

Compare to someone renting out space in a building.
If they rent out to a gang that makes violent forays into the surrounding neighborhood, then that's definitely not a morally neutral action.
The ones renting out the space have an obligation to stop enabling the bad guys.

Also the “I wholly disapprove of what you say and will defend to the death your right to say it” stance is played out by now. We have seen it in practice, and it does not work.

People should be judged by what they say. Someone say Nazi stuff? Go punch them in the face. Or fire them, if they work for you. Or cut ties with their employers, if they work for someone else.

Speech is not some special magic. It is an action like any other, and like any other action, if it does harm, it is not subject to any liberties.

The universal limit to all liberties is where harm is caused.
