"Marvin Lipofsky’s (1938–2016) formed and stretched, blown-glass sculpture merged studio glass with fine art. On many of his pieces, Lipofsky employed flocking and etching to conceal the reflection of the glass and accentuate its form. With assistance from Stefan Stefko in 1985, the form for IGS II was blown using a large, wooden mold at the Crystalex Corporation’s Hantich factory in Nový Bor, Czechoslovakia (now known as the Czech Republic). As with other works produced by Lipofsky overseas, IGS II was cut, ground, sandblasted, and finished at his studio in Berkeley. See "California Studio Craft: Featuring Works from the Forrest L. "Did you know that “California Studio Craft: Featuring Works from the Forrest L. Merrill Collection” features work by the husband and wife team of woodworker Bob Stocksdale (1913–2003) and textile artist Kay Sekimachi (b. 1926)? Stocksdale had a masterful talent for revealing dramatic patterns hidden below the surface of rare wood. Sekimachi transformed thread, paper, and organic materials into delightfully expressive textiles, vessels, and sculpture. Married in 1972, Stocksdale and Sekimachi refined their craft together for over three decades, sharing a love of form and innovation in craft. Works by four contemporary artists feel right ‘at home’ in the Studio where Wharton Esherick worked and lived in Chester County, Pennsylvania. The Wharton Esherick Museum preserves, maintains, and exhibits the sculptures and furnishings of 20th century American artist Wharton Esherick, allowing visitors to wander – and wonder – through the artist’s handbuilt working and living spaces.
