Watching #stormPia videos and

A) Glad we travelled when we did
B) Wonder if *this* is the event that will finally make people believe in climate change?

Safely back on Arran after an excellent week on Anglesey catching up with the Nord Anglia expeditions team and doing an advanced wilderness first aid course. Made it back to Arran by the skin of my teeth last night. #StormPia is still making her presence felt here. Massive kudos to the crew of the Caley Isles who are bravely sailing in some atrocious conditions, with great skill and dedication.

Yesterday a couple of council contractors with a wood chipper were round my way lopping off dead branches.

I guess that's happening everywhere in the UK this week, after #StormPia

Sometimes, I take a walk after stormy weather to look for fallen branches and trees in the local park.

A friend's @johnfranklinwalker happy doggie is helping inspect the damage to broadband/landline cables this morning.

(Couldn't help but notice the lovely fungi on the tree 💚)

The #Maeslant storm surge barrier that guards the Port of Rotterdam has closed in anger for the first time ever due to #StormPia. Very cool.

The doors are 200 m long each, and the struts are the size of the Eiffel tower. To prevent people with ulterior motives failing to close it when necessary, it decides on its own when to close, so when it closes shit's real.

Uniek moment: Maeslantkering sluit vanwege hoogwater

De Maeslantkering in de Nieuwe Waterweg bij Hoek van Holland wordt momenteel gesloten vanwege het hoge water in combinatie met de storm Pia.

Here’s a different graph showing how the storm surge from #StormPia affected the recent high and low tides.

No noises so looks like the wind has died down finally, still cold and raining.
