Last day of work for a few days before we go to the #forest for a few days and sit in the dark. For Kielder #Starcamp, if you’re wondering, but it’s also just a generally appropriate reaction to all of this {gestures to the whole world right now} 😅
Seriously though, time in nature* is essential and part of us, and I’m looking forward to being away from the computer (*albeit Kielder is a managed forest, not fully wild, it’s still got ospreys and red squirrels and the darkest skies in England 🤩)
It cleared up a bit out of nowhere at Kielder #Starcamp last night. We all went running out to set up telescopes that were covered up because the previous forecast was rubbish 😂
I rested my iPhone on the bridge, took a quick 10-second exposure of the #MilkyWay - look at how many stars!! And this is on a mobile phone. Amazing. Hoping we get a chance to properly fire up the telescope tonight, and fingers crossed for the rest of the week. #astro #stargazing #DarkSkyPark #LightPollutionSucks
Very rough and ready handheld shot from my iPhone - Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) visible in the lower right corner! Amazed I got that on the phone without tripod.
Someone (Nick) left the Seestar telescope in the car and it turns out we can’t open the boot without the indicators flashing - big no-no on a #Starcamp! (Thanks VW) 😐
The forecast was rubbish for this week so this patch of clear sky snuck up on us. Fingers crossed for the rest of the week!
Lovely break up in Kielder, #Northumberland for our regular #Starcamp. Sadly due to the British weather we saw precisely…nothing. But considering the campsite was severely flooded just a couple of weeks beforehand we had a good run. Still nice to be out in the countryside and catching up with astro friends. Met a cute dog and had some good food at local tea rooms.
Got a slow puncture on the way home and had to pump up the tyre 4 times to get back to Newcastle. But at least we’re home! #camping
