As a staff engineer, I generally believe that I shouldn’t be in the critical path of writing code if an effort is well staffed with senior engineers. I’m an extra pair of hands where needed, and I help smooth friction in decisions making and architecture, but the other ICs will learn more from writing the bulk of code.

But that leads to a conundrum: what do I do all day? I’ve been experimenting with a few things.
