Day 4/7

I'm beat. I didn't get a whole lot done today, and that's mostly because I've been hammering my head against the double-byte encoding the Korean SRW2 ROM uses. On the plus side, I finally learned to use a disassembler, so I think now I should be able to make my own patches for features like music persistence hacks.

Day 3/3 (goal met!)

Y’know what day of the week it is right? It’s time for some Super Robot Wars 2 hacking! Today I didn’t get a whole lot done except maybe dumping some scripts. But hey, these scripts are pretty heavy; this game’s script feels huge despite it being just an NES game. And guess what, I still haven’t dumped everything :’)

Also, getting these scripts extracted might’ve been easy, but actually reinserting them back in is going to be another hell of a ride. And I don’t mean that in the good way. No, what I mean is that Aeon Genesis moved some things around, and some shortcuts were taken.

I tried asking Gideon Zhi if he could lend me a hand or two, but ultimately he's been too busy with IRL stuff to be of any help, which kind of just sucks :( It's understanable though.

Additionally, there’s such a thing as “pointers to pointers” In here, where pointers are sometimes scattered all over the place and the only thing unifying them is a pointer table which tells where each pointer is.

Off topic but I’m also going to be trying to fix my ungodly sleep schedule and also try to get a consistent schedule for working on projects (right now I work a different amount of time everyday)

Tomorrow I'll be unearthing my Final Fantasy 2 translation from the dead... :o

Day 2/3 (current goal)

Heya! If you're wondering, "What's up with the daily updates, anyway?" then well, they're there to keep me accountable, of course! And speaking of daily updates, today I did some further work on Gaiden. I made a new branch on my git repository, and wrote a few lines of code. I also got around to translating the file save text.

I figured I might as well create new hashtags for my projects, so here we go:

I'm also tracking how many days until each milestone. So expect updates like, "day 3 out of 5", and so on.
