Thomas Taylor, Anglican priest, says the rich man (Dives) from Luke 16 suffered because of neglect of the poor, which is to be expected next to fine dining. He immediately jumps to pastors needing to be able to endure hunger.

Why the connection?

And what of Taylor’s claim that concentratations of luxurious eating correlate to neglect of the poor. Is this true of our vacation spots today?

Arthur Hildersham, English Puritan, discusses advocacy. He says he’s sorry, but it’s good for a pastor to plead for the poor, as Paul was asked to do in Galatians 2.

There is a biblical precedent for telling a respected preacher with top-notch theology that they would still need to remember the poor, to plead for them. And such excellent preachers would be glad to be reminded.

"But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. Mike Parsons with Jeremy Westcott What is the ‘new wine’? In this series of posts we are looking at new wine and new wineskins. Last time we saw how the new wineskin is each one of us, both individually and coming together as a new order ekklesia, but what is this new wine? What does it represent? Here is some of what I have seen (and if you will engage with God for yourself, I am sure you will see some of this and more besides): New governmental mandates and new government […]
