However, it struggled and was cancelled after only 8 episodes were produced. The budget was lower, so they retooled the series to be more of a normal buddy cop show. They lightened up on the trauma of the main characters, but still kept a mostly serious tone. Honestly, I think they did a good job of adapting the miniseries into an ongoing TV show, and it's closer to the original than people think. But viewers were disappointed in the lack of cool and creepy alien special effects. If you bear in mind the budget limitations, I think you'll have a fun ride with the TV series. The TV series immediately prepares you for a new tone and scope with the opening that feels like a comedic romantic buddy cop show.
