Sinister Smile Press has released Tales of Cryptid Chaos, featuring my new story “We Bring Our Monsters.” This marks my third appearance in Sinister Smile’s If I Die Before I Wake anthology series. I’ve written a chiller about a girl named Mal who takes a summer job at an Oregon mall who soon finds herself being stalked by a mythical creature from Filipino folklore. This was one of those stories where the research was as much fun as the writing. Not only are cryptids real, they’re chaotic as all hell. 👣

My story “We Bring Our Monsters” was selected to be included in If I Die Before I Wake, Volume 10: TALES OF CRYPTID CHAOS.

The anthology is coming in December from #SinisterSmilePress and #CrystalLakePublishing.

It’s been a minute since my work has appeared in this series, but it feels just like coming home—if that home is dark and creepy and run by a sinister pair of foster fathers who only trot me out when the state inspector comes around for a budgetary headcount, then afterwards I’m sent back into the basement with cold gruel and a dirty blanket.

I’m seriously honored to be counted among these authors, and wish them all a hearty congratulations! But none of you are welcome behind the furnace. That’s my warm space in the wintertime.

I donated blood. My family visited the Art of the Brick exhibit. We saw musician Olivia Jean and her band in a local concert. I created an author’s website at https://www.davidriderauthor.com/home . I self-published We Are Van Helsing - Book Two, started a new novella, and completed four new short stories. And two of my other tales published in Sinister Smile Press anthologies qualified me to join the Horror Writers Association! I hope this year was just as great for you. Here’s to 2023!
