And the last I show is a quiet atmospheric print of a bath house. Kinda fitting to my plans for a spa day with friends tomorrow.

The other wall in the exhibition was about Hisui's role during WW II and Japanese invasion of Korea and Japan - a hard reminder. Did not make photos of that art on purpose, even though some of it was impressive. Made me think a lot about Kazuo Ishiguros "An Artist of the Floating World" (very much a recommendation!).

Then some experiments with color - it's the same printing blocks so the crucial step is the interaction between the artist and the printer, either just changing colors or removing some of the blocks to change the atmosphere (esp. the misty view in the four boat images).

I've first seen this in the previous exhibition and I fell in love. Really would love to have something like this on a wall in the house, even in reproduction ...

Been to the Kawase Hasui exhibition in the Sieboldhuis here in Leiden today. Lovely though imho not quiet that interesting as the overview Shin Hanga exhibition they had a while ago. Still worth it if you are eithe in Leiden and have some time to spare or, like me, love Japanese art and wood prints in particular.

First a really impressive take on a snowstorm - some impressive work from the wood cutter here, turning the artist's vision into a print.

One of the highlights of the Wabi Sabi exhibition @sieboldhuis was this big and bold kintsugi jar.
