The coronavirus is airborne. Here’s how to know if you’re breathing other people’s breath.

In a major new pandemic trend, people are turning to carbon dioxide monitoring devices to help assess ventilation quality and coronavirus transmission risk.

I mean no disrespect

Generally, politicians are not scientists, doctors or ventilation engineers, they base their inactions to appease a vocal hostile minority

In the winter months Ontario schools are a cesspool of disease. I will change my opinion if I ever see a proper report from a credible Industrial air quality hygienist whose report indicates otherwise.

The myth of uncertainty is purely political.

Many do not want to risk backlash of commenting on the quality of air in our schools & the specifics of increased risk of transmission during the winter season.

Without politics it is certain that wearing masks & reducing Co2 levels in classrooms reduce the transmission of covid & RSV

Carbon dioxide gives a good indication of air quality and virus infection risk.

Legislation should mandate CO2 monitoring in the classroom.
Digital CO2 monitors are cheap, accessible, and easy to use

Teachers are valuable assets who are smart enough to provide valuable information on C02 to Air Quality Hygienists who can then develop an indoor air quality program

Issue targeted mask mandates for schools in the winter season

Wherever you are sharing air, the lower the CO2 level in a room, the lower risk of infection from respiratory viruses.

There is no single CO2 level at which a person can assume a shared indoor space is safe so wear mask in crowded indoor spaces this winter season

Rates of Transmission of Respiratory viruses & Risks

When Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is high in a classroom the risk of infection increases.

Often an Industrial IAQ specialist will tentatively nod their head to that statement while saying it is more complicated.

Indeed, it is complicated as the factors to quantify the level of risk includes various several of other factors.

That still does not alter that fact that CO2 levels in a space increases the risk of infection.

Since colds, flu, RSV, & Covid-19 are spread via airborne particles begin to seriously to commit to schools with ongoing plans for indoor air quality improvement through legislation, investigations & investments. IAQ improvements can be made incremental through ongoing short term & long-term capital improvement funding.

Wearing a mask during the flu/covid seasons is also easy & cost effective.

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Hygienists can calculate infection risk in buildings for different activities and rooms using a standard airborne disease transmission Wells-Riley model, calibrated for COVID-19 & RSV

HEPA filters alone does not constitute an Indoor Air Quality plan. Each school presents unique challenges & require an independent Industrial Hygienist Air Quality Inspection. Typically, in the winter season schools fail to achieve healthy ventilation rates
