12 years ago today, I wrote: "It's too late, of course, but I wonder if requiring aspiring economists to take a degree in the physical sciences with an emphasis on thermodynamics or geology before proceeding to the study of economics would have slowed our "progress" toward resource depletion, climate change, and system collapse. Economics is really theology in mufti."

"Most moral action, including moral violence, springs from immediate emotion. Morals are what happen when you don’t stop to think. See Hamlet. Since the Internet greases a million pigs of thoughtless emotion reaction per second, it is a vast Grand Guignol of moral action. Moralists, like trolls, have no scruples. After all, morals are what people acquire when they lack the mental capital to afford an imagination." #selfquote 2015 #talkingtomyselflettingyoulisten #thoughtballoon

"I have learned hatred from the righteous, and love from the wicked. Heaven reeks of burning saints; hell shakes with cataclysmic laughter."

I was searching for a poem I wrote in email, and I found this forgotten sentence in an exhange with a friend from 2007.

"Rationality is just the prophylactic sheath over the rest of the human brain, which seethes with emotion and madness."

I've expressed this sentiment in different ways more than once, but I quite like this.

Mom used to say, two can keep a secret if one of them is dead. To keep up with the times, I say two can keep a secret if one of them is dead and the survivor has no Internet connection.

Eleven years ago today, I posted on Facebook: "Looking at my activity log, I find not only have expressed a thought three years ago better than I expressed the very same thought yesterday, but also am chagrined that I wasted it on Facebook both times." Progress is a fallen angel dragged backwards in time. I can't remember who said that, though in the past I've attributed it Bosco Pertwee. #selfquote #quote #anonymoustext
A scholar of Sanskrit whose name I’ve lost somewhere in the fog of my brain posits that some Vedic hymns or chants may possibly have preceded language, originating as something like the human equivalent of birdsong. We sang hymns before we had words. We worshipped before we had God. Before God, before we were people, we chanted and danced around the fire, poetry without words, movement without thought. We made fire, we sang and danced until we became human." #selfquote
I'm thinking about collecting my poems and other writings about angels into one book, since the angels insist on creeping into my work. "Yes, angels are chimeras, and that seems an obvious thing to say once said, but if angels are chimeras they are monstrous, cryptids of the Collective, offspring of Typhon the father of all monsters and Echidna the snake goddess, and kin to the sphinx." 2/5/2015 #selfquote #angels #poetry
