Oldham have switched grounds for their cup game against Orrell at the weekend. Despite Boundary Park being billed as the permanent home of the club, they’ve made the switch to Bower Fold in Stalybridge citing “Boundary Park being unavailable”. AFAICT it is fully available.

Much criticism on Zuckerberg’s hell hole but no response from the club.

I think this is the first time the club have blinked since the takeover. Cashflow must be an issue with mediocre season ticket sales, not much commercial activity and no gate revenue since September. It must be cheaper moving than taking a loss in Oldham.

A return to Stalybridge, however temporary, is a return to the nomadic existence of the past 25 years. It’ll be a poor crowd despite Bower Fold being a fine ground for second tier rugby league.

They must be hoping for Dewsbury to progress against West Hull because if not, maybe Boundary Park will become “unavailable” again in a few weeks time.

I did a preview of tomorrow’s Salford v Oldham game. It’s written from the perspective of someone who used to manage the Oldham club’s website and social media but gave it up due to nepotism. And it really bugs me.

2024 day two.

I’ve set up a ticketing site for Oldham in 2024 using some software called Pretix (https://pretix.eu). It’s not exactly ideal for a sporting event but because of the nature of how tickets will be issued in 2024 I can make it work.

It’s really impressive software and the more I use it the more proficient I am getting in managing it.

Had one little irksome problem for the past few days centered around scanning multiple ticket types on the same check-in list but I cracked that nut today and we’re good to go.

In other news Mike Ford, Sean Long, Jordan Turner and Joe Wardle visited the Fox and Pine in Oldham to show off the Law Cup to fans in the build up to the actual game at Rochdale two weeks on Sunday. I was going to go but it’s a long way from my home in Leeds just to gawk at something I’ve seen loads of times, so I swerved.

Enjoyed my return to on-field match photography today. It was really gloomy and that's always a tough ask when you want to shoot fast action sport.

Anyway, my team won the cup, so YAY!
