The Pentagon says the United States will send a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense battery to Israel along with troops needed to operate it. That word Sunday comes as Iran has warned Washington to keep its military forces out of Israel. Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder, Pentagon spokesman, says Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin authorized the deployment of the battery at the direction of President Joe Biden. Ryder says the system will help bolster Israel’s air defenses following Iran’s ballistic missile attacks in April and this month. The delivery of the sophisticated missile defense system risks further inflaming the conflict in the Middle East, despite widespread diplomatic efforts to avoid an all-out war.

Global trade records reviewed by The Associated Press show a publisher in China’s eastern city of Hangzhou shipped close to 120,000 of the Bibles to the United States between early February and late March. The largest and most recent load of 70,000 copies of Trump’s Good Book arrived by container vessel at the Port of Los Angeles on March 28, two days after Trump announced he had partnered with country singer Lee Greenwood to hawk the Bibles. The Trump campaign did not respond to emails and calls seeking comment.

An Idaho state senator is reported to have told a Native American candidate to “go back where you came from” during a candidate forum this week. Trish Carter-Goodheart is a Democratic candidate for the House District 6 seat and member of the Nez Perce Tribe. She says Republican Dan Foreman yelled at her after she talked about discrimination and racism within the state. She said the blowup left her shaken and frightened her young children. Foreman left the event early after the outburst. He later denied making any racist comments in a Facebook post. Foreman did not respond to a voice message from The Associated Press seeking comment.
