Labor's whole conundrum right now is "We keep punishing the poor, as much as inhumanly possible, every single year, but they just keep saying they'll vote One Nation! What are we doing wrong here?"
A whole article about how people who've been "left behind" are turning to One Nation, not one mention of socioeconomics, not one mention of the crippling social security and disability systems in Australia.
Just talking about workers, and educating people. Get fucked.
People were dumb and working when they voted for you before, just as they are right now when they won't vote for you. What's changed is they can't afford to rent a house, their salaries are shit, and social security no longer fills gaps; not Job Seeker, not Austudy, not Disability Pensions, not even Family Tax Benefits.
Everything has been tied to headline inflation, which means for poor people, finances have gone back by as much as 10% per year. That compounds, and compounds, and when a review said things were dire, Labor said "We can't do all the nice things".
"Maybe One Nation can" is the first thing Labor voters think, even if it's not promised. Because they've been told by Labor for 20 years now that "The Greens are evil"
Power bills up 32% from last year.
JobSeeker up 0% from last year.
If you're not fighting for an increase to JobSeeker every day of your life, you are not a leftie
So I assume the new social housing in Victoria will charge 35% of benefits, vs 25% of benefits for the public housing it [partly] replaces.
