Looks like protocols.io assumes all users have protocols.io account (instead of logging in with ORCiD, for example)
So if you need to do a password confirmation (for example, removing yourself from an abusive ex-employer/PI's workspace) you're out of luck unless the abuser generously lets you go.
Maybe a better alternative to protocols.io is some combination of zenodo (for DOI) and sort of RSS/git for cataloging and discoverability?
