A quotation from Horace

You may drive out Nature with a pitchfork, yet she will ever hurry back, and, ere you know it, will burst through your foolish contempt in triumph.

[Naturam expellas furca, tamen usque recurret,
Et mala perrumpet furtim fastidia victrix.]

Horace (65-8 BC) Roman poet, satirist, soldier, politician [Quintus Horatius Flaccus]
Epistles [Epistularum, Letters], Book 1, ep. 10 “To Aristius Fuscus,” l. 24ff (1.10.n) (20 BC) [tr. Fairclough (Loeb) (1926)]

I have witnessed #Western #Christians happily embrace their #global brothers & sisters (& even use them as props), up until these same brethren critique us for abandoning the #Bible’s #teachings on any/each of those points.

And rather than engage in critical #selfreflection of how far we’ve allowed secular ideologies to form us, we reveal a #pridefulness that refuses to #listen & take to heart the #corrections , and instead thinks we know better and are more advanced.
