During COVID I rediscovered music trackers thanks to a Polish electronic instrument maker creating the Polyend Tracker. Back in the day I started making music on the Fast Tracker 2. This device felt like magic. After almost 2 decades I started making music again.

Polytracker is collecting dust now, because it was outdone by the convenience and size of the Dirtywave M8, but it continues to have a place in my heart.

My unnamed tracker has capability to play and import Polyend and Protracker projects and audio and DSP to realize that the fullest but in addition...

1. It will load/save its own format.
2. Decent modern real-time timestrech.
3. Arbitrary length samples mono/stereo.
4. Polyend song themselves even with old features just sound much better given high-fidelity signal, oversampling, across the board better and less aliased DSP and some magic dust :-)
5. From eight to 16 channels.
6. Curvature of envelopes (I don't get why they didn't just do this, it is very weird).
7. 1010music Blackbox'ish hardware synth auto-multisampling.
8. All 16 channels are equal. I.e. no weird 8/8 divisions. All do samples and MIDI instruments.

That's about it for 1.0 DoD :-) I retain my right to reconsider licensing up until I release anything but most likely GPLv3.

I'll support Pipewire on Linux and CoreAudio on macOS and obviously Windows and WASAPI and ASIO support are welcome as contributions.

Old school file browsing experience :-) Rendered as a single GLSL shader program (except top and bottom bar). There's now 1:1 correspondence between shader programs and screens. Most importantly this stabilizes latency for each tick in audio playback (smaller CPU time variance).

@elifyalvac I wish they made something like #LSDJ #tracker for #Android, or even something like #Renoise. Especially with the popularity of the #Dirtywave and the #Polyend hardware trackers, there's clearly a demand for a modern tracker #daw for #mobile #musicians. I know we have #sunvox but I really struggle with its ux quirks. I'm slowly putting together a software clone slash inspired of first edition of Polyend Tracker:

All the graphics code is going throug rewrite (undoing egui for other than layouts, per-pixel rendering to texture for each block) and doing direct pipewire backend, and later on CoreAudio for macOS :-)

It's a Polyend Tracker clone in early phases 🙂 Features 64-bit low-latency realtime signal path and SIMD optimized mixer, effects and filters (SVF LP/BP/HP). Loads Polyend Tracker's PTI instruments. Have been doing this for some time with ultra low priority.

Firmware 1.3 for the ‪Play+ introduced the new DIRT Synth Engine. Perfect time to jam with it! Audio is sent through the Polyend Press and recorded directly without any further processing.
