Norwich’s Other Half kick off their latest chapter with “Transgression Is Outdated,” a punk grenade lobbed at nostalgia and self-doubt alike. Out via Big Scary Monsters, it’s their first swing since 2024’s Dark Ageism. The track snarls with feedback-drenched riffs and a beat that slams from sarcastic verses to frantic choruses, landing in a gritty nod to the Breeders’ heyday. Cal Hudson’s vocals drip with venom, jabbing at bands who’ve lost their spark—“ex-ravers defending the pigs”—while smirking at their own potential hypocrisy. It’s a messy, intense stew, seasoned with gore and silly rock flair, questioning if they’re just as guilty of cashing in on past glories. Spoiler: they’re too raw to be that cynical yet.
“I Could Take”
(Hayden Carruth)
I could take
two leaves
and give you one.
Would that not be
a kind of perfection?But I prefer
one leaf
torn to give you half
showing(after these years, simply)
love’s complexity in an act,
the tearing and
the unique edges —
one leaf (one word) from the two
imperfections that match. #love #poem #poetry #lovepoetry #haydencarruth #otherhalf #leaves
I wouldn't say that #OtherHalf are the best live band in the UK right now, but they're in the top one.
Got the new album last night and took it out for my #runningpunks #virtualrunclub this morning. If you like Jesus Lizard, Jawbox, and that kind of noisy post-hardcore, get right on it.
