Listening to the closing keynote of #OpenRepositories by @kathleengregory about “Strengthening open data infrastructures in times of crisis”

“Open data infrastructures underpin scholarly research as well as decisions made in public life. While these infrastructures are often assumed to be stable, recent global events have demonstrated their vulnerability to geopolitical change, spurring efforts not only to rescue at-risk data, but also to make open systems more resilient”

Alexandros Ioannidis from CERN describes the effects of "AI" on open repositories like Zenodo as a "DoS attack on human resources" and illustrates his talk with different illustrations of hell by Gustave Doré, William Blake, Botticelli and Delacroix. My new favourite talk of #OpenRepositories so far.

Last day of exciting #OR2026 conference (with occasional mentions to #CRIS systems on its programme): watch out for this "Are there still important #PIDs missing? Investigation on agreements with publishers" from @[email protected] and @uni_regensburg

Really interesting discussion at the #OpenRepositories opening keynote:

- budget cuts in science and education in many countries

- lot of talk about digital “sovereignty”. I am always a bit uncomfortable with the “sovereignty” talk. Would hope to hear more about “solidarity” and “conscious interdependency” instead

Does anyone have good references on learning about sovereignty vs. autonomy vs. solidarity vs. conscious interdependency vs. resilience?

Round Table: Cross-Community Collaboration: What Could Solidarity Do for Us?

Open repository communities are navigating a moment of real challenge: limited staffing, stretched volunteers, and increasing uncertainty. Yet these communities are also rich with shared values, overlapping participants, and complementary strengths.
