Was sind so eure Setups? #plsboost
TuxCon 2025 and the new challenge – Developing Open Source Hardware and Software EUR 20 IoT Smart Home Server

Last weekend, on May 10–11, the TuxCon 2025 open-source hardware and software conference was hosted in Plovdiv. TuxCon is a small, local event organized by volunteers since 2014. The event was held…

@peachfiend I have used both, including a parallel run for a while.
I'm not going to write a comparison article, but generally find #HomeAssistant has a larger community and a better GUI.

The days of editing YAML in HA are gone, but then again, the Java-like #openHAB scripting language has also moved on with several options.

Some migration notes may help a comparison:

Migration from OpenHAB to HA

Hi, it’s my first post here but I have briefly tried HA with docker installation and are considering to migrate from OpenHAB to HA for the following reasons: HA seems to be more actively developed with larger community Matter support - for sure important for Apple users, OH still doesn’t have a concrete plan on matter support Better HomeKit support, including integration to native Homekit devices, I have some IoTs which only support HomeKit UI and app on iOS also looks better Given that said,...

Home Assistant Community
now soliciting advice about open source "home assistant" solutions. i have finally convinced my partner to give up her Google Home Minis.
currently under consideration:
* #HomeAssistant https://companion.home-assistant.io/
* #openHAB https://www.openhab.org/
currently leaning toward Home Assistant because there seems to be at least some community activity and support for most of my lights (https://github.com/nikshriv/cync_lights).
if you've used either/both of these, input is welcome, and #BoostsAreAppreciated

Got the full voice activation working in #openhab we are talking the use of a wake word, Speech to Text and Text to Speech as well as a basic speech interpreter.

I should probably write a blog post on this, it was quite a few bits and pieces.

Ever wanted to write your #openHAB home automation rules in #rustlang?
Now you can! With #habrs!

hab-rs is an external rule engine for your openHAB instance.

Feel free to give it a try!

I am switching from Home assistant to OpenHab.
I like the setup, automations. Modeling my equipment in rooms, floors is super handy
The gui is also nice and easy, graphs are not setup but the examples look nice.
The export of data to MySQL or any other persistent database is simple and integrated

What a respectable amount of plugins
It is a bit new and fiddling withall the new ways it gets configured but intuitive

So any tips or links to how-to guides and best practices?
