The oldest of all Noh masks, the Okina (old man) mask withrounded eyebrows & separated chin is different from other noh masks. It has a lower jaw attached to the main mask with a cord. The eyes are open slits, rather than sculpted eyeballs with bored holes for pupils. Okina is said to be a noh play, but not a noh play. It has no storyline. It is a sacred rite in which actors perform divine figures who dance for peace, prosperity, and safety.

I've just picked up this lovely 1960s tieclip with an Okina noh mask design. The patina of the metal is really attractive.
