5/ Fun facts:
Philippine and Hawaii were nicknamed “white tail” and “red tail” as they had their tails painted differently to make it easier to tell them apart.
Philippine, delivered in 1946 is actually the older of the two planes. It was the second production plane after the Hawaii Mars (I) was lost in a fire. Hawaii Mars II was the last plane built. Also delivered in 1946. They were both converted to water bombers in 1959 and 1960.

It isn’t set in stone yet but if I know Wayne Coulson’s sense of timing, he’s probably going to make B.C. Day, August 5th, the day of the last flight of the Hawaii Mars.
This will be a very memorable summer. I am going to try to get as much time in watching the crews test and bring both planes up to flight worthiness as I can.
There is nothing else like them and it will be a summer-long celebration!
