Daitoku-ji Temple (Kyoto City)🍃
Founded in 1315, Daitoku-ji is the head temple of the Rinzai Zen sect’s Daitoku-ji branch. Revived by the monk Ikkyū and later supported by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, it grew into a major center of Zen culture.
The grounds include the National Treasure Hōjō and Karamon Gate, a renowned rock garden, and about 20 sub-temples. History, art, and Zen beauty come together here—and even a simple stroll along the stone paths is rewarding.
