#Ants use a “new” mechanism to regulate gene expression at large tandem arrays of #odorant #receptors. #Neurons “choose” a transcription start site along the array, and then express all downstream genes. To fine-tune receptor expression in the neurons, only RNA from the most upstream expressed gene is exported into the cytoplasm to be translated. This suggests that, despite #coexpression, ant #olfactory neurons ultimately make only one receptor.
