Dread Meridian Review – At the Mountains of Badness

Does anyone want a quest 2 headset since I don't really want it and I plan on replacing it with a valve headset when it comes out

Its cooling modded and has a damaged volume button

It also has a comfort strap

If you are in the Colorado front range area I can ride it over in the car

Will need help with shipping if outside Colorado front range area and the quest 2 is being sold instead of being given away due to eventually replacing it with a steamframe as a vulpine labs devkit

Thinking of selling the modded quest 2 in preparation for getting a steam frame
It has a 3d printed vent mod which is meant to improve airflow
The only non-working thing is the volume buttons if anyone wants it and can help with shipping let me know
Anyone in Denver/Boulder/Loveland/mountains I can also drive it over to
And feel free to boost this around

@StarkRG Granted, #Valve does address these things and also worked towards making it a better "standalone #VR system" than the #OculusQuest by packing in a lot of power and making it run #SteamOS.

  • And I'm shure games like #BeatSaber will just run perfectly smooth on it!

I just hope their "investment" into #LinuxGaming will playout longterm and that the #SteamFrame will be a better alternative to the #OculusQuest and certainly be more useful.

  • At least there seems to be both support for external, "belt-pack batteries" (using USB-PD) and "tethered" use for it, so folks who live in "extremely RF-noisy envoirments" or just wanting to use it as a face-mounted screen may be able to enjoy it that way...

@Sh4d0w_H34rt yeah, obviously #Valve will have everything up and running pre-announcement just because that's the norm.

But even if we assume #AMD gave them a good deal with some #binned-down chips (cuz the specs hint at that being the case!) I'm convinced they'll easily need more like $500 for mainboard, CPU, GPU, VRAM, case & PSU (#California made #80Plus Gold mandatory!) on top of RAM & SSD.

  • So I do expect the #GabeCube / #GabenCube / #SteamMachine (2nd Gen.) to cost at least $999,-- and a full bundle with the #SteamFrame or a 4-Pack of Steam Controllers to be close to $1.499,-- which depending on how you look at #GamingConsoles and #PC hardware pricing, would still be in what they claim to be "Not a Console, Entry Level PC pricing"

Granted I do expect production to be just ramping up cuz otherwise schematics would've potentially leaked beforehand to "certain websites" known to fill in the blanks that #Apple and others leave fir repair technicians.

  • I mean, I do wish for the Steam Machine to be successful and #SteamOS too.

If Valve were to launch it with #HalfLife3 included they'd certainly steal the crowd from #GTA6...

  • Either way I hope for the success of it simply because #LinuxGaming really improved and the Steam Frame may just be the better #OculusQuest!
@asie if it was like €499 like the bare #ValveIndex then I'd see it as the "death kneel" to the #OculusQuest!

@Polychrome granted, #Valve had to follow the #OculusQuest in terms of being "accessible" to #Normies

  • Even at the expense of precision, as your use-case (for better or worse) is an edgecase…

Damn, #Valve are releasing not only the new Steam Controller but also a new #Steam Machine (6x the power of Steam Deck) as well as a #OculusQuest competitor that is PC based. Coming early 2026!
