Oh byes I am pissed. Here's what I wrote to my MLA, the blameless Claudia Chender, and here's where I will be next Tuesday and Wednesday instead of working on my next novel.

Rally images stolen from Ecology Action Centre & Page 1 Theatre. Some email wording stolen from nsarts.ca.

Remainder of email's alt-text (will put rest in reply): Cuts to youth-focused arts programming and education will negatively impact our literacy. Especially after the disruptions of Covid, our students don't need to have enrichment opportunities taken away.

In the '90s, I worked for the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia. Amongst my many jobs was running the Writers' In The Schools program. WITS involves a small investment (only $65,000, which I notice has not been increased since I ran this program 30 years ago) and puts local authors into their classrooms to support a love of reading and allow students to see themselves in the books they are reading.

Protesting public service cuts! #nspolitics #union #halifax 🪧 📯 🎉

Going to a lil union protest at lunch at the House of Assembly in Halifax.

This should be fun! Time to let all the rage out 🪧 😤

I even made a little sign at home with an old cereal box 🤣

I reached out to another union and they are sending some members in solidarity with ours✊

BONUS: They're bringing Timbits!

NS Budget 2025: $386 million for two Bridges, one EOL and needs replacement, paid for taxpayers in perpituity. Tax cuts! Wooo! 💸🤑💰 *Money gun*

NS Budget 2026: Another $130 Million for bridge maintence on two Halifax bridges. Oh and also, we're poor now and we need to cut the public service 5% every year until 2030 and were still hemmoraging money, f*ck the environment. Tax EV drivers!1!1 Sawwy, we have no money to help with Transit 🥺.

YTD Spend on HHB which used to not cost NS tax payers anything: $516 Million.

How many BRT systems could we have bought with that? 2, 3? Perhaps an LRT?!

I hate it here

#nsbudget #nspolitics #novascotia #transit

Just a friendly reminder that this year's former HHB bridge upkeep is almost as much than the total discretionary grant cuts from the Provincial Government 😑

"The government is also cutting discretionary grant spending by $130 million...

Halifax Harbour Bridges will get about $120 million for general maintenance and operations"

THIS USED TO BE SELF FUNDING YOU TWITS 🤦

N.S. budget contains major cuts as province confronts $1.2B deficit | CBC News

About 1,000 full-time equivalent jobs could come off the books this year.

CBC

My union was just informed that 77 NSGEU employees have been made redundant.

Impacted departments:

Meat Inspection
Agriculture
Highway Maintenance/Construction
Museums
Tourism

My provincial government:

*lowers HST*
*buys a self funded bridge commission* *complaints about non permanent residents*

Now:

- $500 million from the HST cut, gone.
- $200 million for a bridge commission no one wanted
- Population growth has stopped (lower tax revenues).
- Oh and one of the bridges needs replacing.

The government: Oh nooo, we have a 1.3 Billion dollar deficit!
