A Virgin Atlantic passenger jet - sans cargo/paying passengers - crossed the Atlantic Ocean Tuesday (London-to-New York) using 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

SAF is used cooking oil + waste animal fat + “synthetic aromatic kerosene made from waste corn.”

“Engines in commercial use are not yet certified to fly on more than 50% SAF and the vast majority of flights blend in a much lower amount of SAF with traditional jet fuel.”

Got a letter from Littlest’s school yesterday. Reception (4YO) will only have ~15 children joining and the school will generally have ~40 children less than full capacity. Normally this would be great (smaller classes) but really this means less funding. They’re going from 7 classes to 6. Another local school is going down to 4 classes. Not every class will have a TA.

They’ll be more and more dependent on parent contributions for cash and materials.
