Working on one of the game's tracks with my Yamaha MOX6 ❤️

My dearest friend Amadeus moved to Thailand and is building up a business. It's taking a bit longer than anticipated, and now he runs out of funds. There a multiple ways to support him, especially if you are a #musician and into #musicmaking. 🎸
For example by buying his music album, which is great #eletronic music! 👀

Life update #5 – Amadeus Paulussen

After rebuilding life and business in Koh Pha-ngan with my wife, we now need your help!

Fresh listen, and I really like the synth tracks I added to song #3 yesterday. They were sorely needed independently of my singing woes. The song feels complete now. The vocal track isn’t as good as I’d like, but I’m not sure I can do much better. We’ll see if I decide to keep it or if I attempt to redo it (which implies a lot of post prod fiddling to remove various pops and clicks, etc.)

So I took a break (and made a music video), and came back to song #3. Managed a better and decent take, but I still can’t get the mix to work. The orchestration is sparse and I knew my approximate voice wouldn’t necessarily be able to carry the song. The proper thing to do would probably be to do take after take until I have something I can live with, but the problem may be deeper. So in the meantime what did I do? I added 5 tracks of synths instead 😂😭

I managed a single, raspy vocal take on song #3 before my voice started breaking again. Impatience much? Worst comes to worst, it’ll do, but the danger of course is that I’ll just get so used to it that I won’t bother to try again if and when my voice recovers…

Nothing to report. Voice still breaking like I just started puberty. I’m going to have to be patient (not my forte, see the first post in this thread 😅).

Then again, still on cloud nine after the crazy launch of @TIBtv on Sunday ☺️

(Speaking of…) Next person who gets all I DO WHAT I WANT AND I DO WHAT I LIKE FUCK EVERYONE ELSE with me about making music is getting bopped on the noggin with this quote. IT'S NOT A CRIME TO HAVE MOTIVATION OUTSIDE YOUR OWN SELF-GRATIFICATION. (ahem, aka musical masturbation)

(emphasis added by me)

“If art is about self, the widely accepted corollary is that making art is about self-expression. And it is — but that is not necessarily all it is. It may only be a passing feature of our times that validating the sense of who-you-are is held up as the major source of the need to make art. What gets lost in that interpretation is an older sense that art is something you do out in the world, or something you do about the world, or even something you do for the world. The need to make art may not stem solely from the need to express who you are, but from a need to complete a relationship with something outside yourself. As a maker of art you are custodian of issues larger than self.

Some people who make art are driven by inspiration, others by provocation, still others by desperation. Artmaking grants access to worlds that may be dangerous, sacred, forbidden, seductive, or all of the above. It grants access to worlds you may otherwise never fully engage. It may in fact be the engagement — not the art — that you seek. The difference is that making art allows, indeed guarantees, that you declare yourself. Art is contact, and your work necessarily reveals the nature of that contact. In making art you declare what is important.”

dump question: but does anyone know and is able to recommend Linux compatible audio plugins (vst/clap) focussed on orchestral sound?
(mainly searching for strings)

although I could find some nice free ones, none are compatible with Linux :(

Built an arrangement for song #4 combining 2 different sources I made yesterday, a quick thing I did in bed in GarageBand on the iPad mini, and a quick thing I recorded on the guitar in Logic.

It might need more stuff, it might need less. I’ll let it rest for a bit (as if the #earworm was going to go away 😅)

My voice is still unusable due to the smoke in the air so I think I’m stuck recording-wise for the time being.

Song #4 has 4 chords and a repeating melody that is quite intoxicating and fun to sing and to play.

Severely earwormed myself.

I tried to switch earworms by fixing a couple of small details that still bothered me in the final mix of song #2.

Didn’t work, earworm #4 is indestructible 😂😭
