Kumanjayi Walker is one of almost 600 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to have died in custody since the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody in 1991. This list also includes Warlpiri man Kumanjayi White, who was killed by police in #Mparntwe in June 2025.

Kumanjayi Walker’s inquest must signal a turning point for ending the status quo of police investigating police - Overland literary journal

The path forward is clear and this moment must be a reckoning for holding police to account. Governments must end the status quo of the police investigating themselves and dodging accountability for their actions. As long as governments allow the police to act with impunity, racism will remain unchecked within policing and Aboriginal deaths in custody will continue.

Thou Shalt Not Steal (2024) - The Screen Guide - Screen Australia

THOU SHALT NOT STEAL is an eight-episode road series set in Central and South Australia in the 1980s. On a search for the truth behind a family secret, Robyn, a young Aboriginal delinquent, escapes from detention and reluctantly teams up with awkward teenager Gidge. Together they flee her small central desert community on a perilous journey across the outback, finding answers and learning some hard life lessons along the way. Hot on their heels are Maxine, a sex worker whose taxi Robyn stole, and Gidge’s domineering father Robert, a fraudulent preacher.

NSW will remove 65,000 years of Aboriginal history from its syllabus. It’s a step backwards for education

By limiting the syllabus to events post-1788, the NSW Education Standards Authority indirectly sends students the message that Australia’s ‘history’ began at colonisation.

Yitaki Mani — Reading the Country

Reading the tracks, Christine knows which direction an animal is going, how long ago it passed by, and whether it was male or female. She knows which birds will sing out when it nears, its favourite food, and how to safely burn its habitat.

#Pintupi rangers and elders trekked five hours to the #NewhavenWildlifeSanctuary, 363 kilometres north-west of #Mparntwe #AliceSprings, to learn from the #Warlpiri master trackers.
