The full bison build is officially taking shape at the Southern Minnesota Museum of Natural History. The Cherney site’s bones are finally moving from crates into museum care. Vertebra by vertebra, limb by limb, a Pleistocene giant from Coon Rapids, is rising again in Blue Earth.

Happy #LostBones #FossilFriday! 🐴🦣🐂🦥🍃🐪🐟 Was on the road this week with @dr_crocogator to retrieve specimen #4! This beauty of a horse molar (right p2) is from Wright County, Minnesota.
It was found on the shore of Olson’s Point on Buffalo Lake in 1976 and was currently housed at the Wright County Historical Society in Buffalo.

🦬🐘🦥🐪 For #FossilFriday Highway crews in the 1960s uncovered Ice Age megafauna while building Interstate 94 in central Minnesota. Among the finds were the tibia bones of multiple bison — the fifth most common veribrate mammal element I’ve documented in collections across the Midwest. Each bone carries data from ancient herds roaming post-glacial midwestern landscapes.
