A fresh horror everyone, but a natural one we could probably mitigate if we were smart.....oh...
Anyway, I introduce to you, the MIYAKE EVENT!
The trees remember, and unlike elephants, trees can never forget…
sudden, single-year leaps in the concentration of carbon-14 in trees, as well as beryllium-10 and chlorine-36 in ice sheets—have been confirmed in 7176 BC, 5410 BC, 5259 BC, 774 AD, and 993 AD.
Basically, whatever happens, a #MiyakeEvent would be far worse - #jstordaily

Carrington, and (we now know) Miyake, Events will definitely happen again in future, and if we're still going, they'll end human civilisation* like throwing a switch. Is anyone doing anything about it? (No -- for the same reason, I suspect, that when nuclear weapon exchanges came up as a risk when I was working on BCP / DR plans, the consensus was "we don't need to worry about business continuity, because if it happens, we'll have rather more urgent concerns than remote access to the admin VPNs on our minds.")

* and there's no way survivors could rebuild in the following centuries, because... Well, I'm sure it's too obvious to need spelling out.

The Observatory gets a lot of questions about our very active sun, particularly when can we see aurora again and what all these CME's and sunspots mean. Some have heard of the Carrington event in 1859, or the newly discovered Miyake event.

Researchers at the University of Bern have for the first time been able to pin down a prehistoric settlement of early farmers in northern Greece dating back more than 7,000 years to the year.
I wonder how the Humans at the time handled all the Aurora this event kicked off.
When you know what they are, they're beautiful but if you've never seen nor heard of such things there must haven been some terror mixed in with wonder.
