One of my obsessions is #minimaism. In life and art. Mostly in Literature and film.
Last week I watched Robert Bresson's AU HASARD BALTHAZAR (trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8_Db2r_dCM) the latest to my collection of his films, and it urged me to seek out new American minimalist filmmakers.
I've been at this obsession for decades and have quite a collection (Jarmusch, Smith, Hartley, etc) but I had yet checked out Kelly Reichardt.
This week I watched:
Wendy and Lucy
Meek's Cut-Off
Certain Women,
First Cow.
All are wonderful and worth seeking out but the one that stuck out the most for me was Wendy and Lucy (trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pASs3rerRCY.)
The trailer is deceiving and doesn't show the meat of the plot. This is a story about parenting and making the hard decision of letting a child go to have a better life than what you can give.
