40 species, including snowy owl, added to UN list for greater protections
A week of negotiations has led to 40 species added on a list of protections under the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals, the 15th meeting of countries that are party to a UN treaty signed in 1979.

We had lots of golden-crowned sparrows in the yard in Oregon all winter, but I think they've gone to Alaska and British Columbia to breed now, which is probably why I never have pictures of them in their breeding plumage. Now the white-crowned sparrows are showing up. #BirdOfTheDay #Migratory 📷🌿🪶

Common Toads return yearly to same ancestral breeding ponds, following historic #migration routes that often lead them across roads. With slow movement and poor visibility at night, many are killed by traffic in what #conservationists are calling a growing crisis.
