Butter for $10. That's not inflation, that's profiteering. Three grocery giants—Loblaws, Sobeys, and Metro—control our food system. They're price-fixing and colluding to keep prices sky-high, even as inflation comes down. Meanwhile, Galen Weston, the owner of Loblaws, is worth $18 billion. This is market failure. When the market fails to deliver the necessities of a dignified life at prices people can afford, the government needs to step up. We need a public option for food and groceries. A new public food system, grounded in public farmland and supply chains that puts people before profits.
